Costa del Sol GOLF COURSE OPTIONS

Almenara Golf wends its way through natural parkland surrounded by pine trees and cork oaks.  Created by the famous British designer Dave Thomas, each of the 3 x 9 hole loops that make up Almenara, have very different features. Lagos (the Lakes), Pinos (The Pines) and Alcornoques (The Cork Oaks) all offer players to pick their favourite! This is a very playable and affordable course.

The San Roque club offers two great golf courses – 

The OLD COURSE is surrounded by hills and cork oak woods and is named as one of the top 5 courses in Spain.  It was originally opened in 1991 and was formerly the summer home of the Domecq sherry-making family.  It is only available to visitors for limited times, but offers players the chance to play on this legendary course, originally designed by Dave Thomas and now re-designed. 

This full renovation includes a world class driving range, Jason Floyd Golf Academy and Titleist fitting centre, modern clubhouse with restaurant and banqueting facilities for up 500 people, one hundred new buggies and fifty new electric trolleys with GPS, better billy bunkers system that means no flooded bunkers, new irrigation and drainage system minimizing use of water and ensuring a firm and true playing surface all year and a large golf shop selling all the latest brands.

Valderrama Golf Club is rated as one of the most prestigious golf courses in Spain.  This Robert Trent Jones designed course was originally opened in 1974 under the name of Las Aves (The Birds), and is one of the best known and most challenging golf clubs in Europe.

Home of the Ryder cup in 1997 and the Volvo Masters from 1988 - 1996 and 2002 - 2008. 

Alcaidesa Golf Resort has two magnificent golf courses – Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland with spectacular views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa.

Alcaidesa Links is the only links course in southern Europe being an 18 hole, Par 72 course and total length of 5,866m.  It was inauguated in 1992, and has hosted many tournaments such as 2 PGA of Andalusia in 1993 and 1994, 1 PGA of Spain in 1995, The Ryder Cup Junior Match U.S. against Europe in 1997.  The difficulty of the course lies mainly in the prevailing winds!

Alcaidesa Golf Resort has two magnificent golf courses – Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland with spectacular views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa.

Alcaidesa Heathland is an 18 hole, Par 72 course with a total length of 6,373m.  It offers a variety of natural scenery ranging from the plateau area similar to a heathland, with wide fairways and outstanding views of the Mediterranean, to the valley area where the holes meander along the valley and incorporate several water hazards.

La Reserva de Sotogrande golf has stunning sea and mountain views and a typical Andalucia style clubhouse.  It was opened in 2003 amongst the elite hills of Sotogrande.  It is a challenging and exceptional course.

La Cañada golf is open all year and playable in all weathers and is situated between the sea and the mountains.  It offers 18 holes of fast greens, large trees, dramatic fairways and spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.  It was opened in 1982 with the first (back) nine holes designed by Robert Trent-Jones and the front nine by Dave Thomas. The "signature" 18th hole plays over a wide gorge, reach the far side and it is an easy par 4. La Canada is one of the few public golf courses in this part of Spain, so expect low rates and a busy course. Definitely one to book well in advance!

Considered by Robert Trent Jones as one of his design Masterpieces, Sotogrande is a truly beautiful course where palm trees brush against cork oaks situated on the banks of the Guadiaro River.  In 1965, the Club hosted its first major tournament – the Spanish Open.

Well worth playing for the discerning golfer!

La Duquesa Golf is 18 holes of quite entertaining fairways!! Another of Robert Trent Jones designs enjoying great Mediterranean views. It's closeness to the pretty Puerto de la Duquesa makes it a very accessible, local course.

Finca Cortesin is a demanding par 72 course designed by Cabell Robinson, who worked for many years with the famous Robert Trent Jones, and is ranked as one of Spains best golf courses. The views from the greens are spectacular and the course will challenge professional players and provide fun for the amateurs with its beautifully laid out fairways, numerous bunkers and varying holes. With a choice of 5 different tees the Course is appealing to all levels and the golfer will enjoy a unique golf experience in this exclusive Club. Host of the Volvo World Matchplay Championship for three years.

HOST OF THE SOLHEIM CUP 2023 18 - 24 SEPT

Casares Costa Golf is a 9-hole course designed by Juan Carlos Martínez, running through a gentle valley surrounded by vineyards, avocado and orange trees, typical of the Mediterranean forest. It has three par 3s, five par 4s, and one par 5, making up a course that has become very popular among Costa del Sol golfers thanks to its challenging layout! The par 5 7th will challenge even the best golfer to get par !!!

Dona Julia Golf is a magnificent 18 holes course integrated into the landscape of the Casares mountains with brilliant views to the Mediterranean Sea and Africa.  Opened in 2005, Doña Julia is a very playable and technical course with wide, open fairways and large undulating greens. Offering great value, and excellent drainage in wet weather, this course is a must for all levels of golfer who enjoy sea and mountain views and a good day's golf.

Estepona Golf is well known for it's wide fairways and excellent greens and offers a fair test to players of all levels. It has stunning sea views with the Sierra Bermeja mountain range as a backdrop.  With a friendly clubhouse, this is another course worth a try at good value prices.

AZATA GOLF is a new 18-holes golf course designed by Sterling & Martin Golf Architects located in between Estepona and Valle Romano Golf courses.

Azata Golf has 18 holes PAR 71 with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra Bermeja. The course has been designed as a walkable course and follows the natural contours of the valley and tranquility is its hallmark.

Valle Romano is an exceptional 18-hole course, designed to host the most demanding and prestigious tournaments although still providing enjoyable play for the amateurs. With an imposing club house this is another course not to miss. The player is warmly welcomed when arriving. When finished, the marshall team offer to clean clubs and shoes as a house courtesy.  For a dedicated golfing break, the Ona Valle Romano Golf Resort apartments are only a short stroll to the course and clubhouse and offer value as well as quality accommodation.

Marbella Club Golf Resort is situated in the hills of Benahavis and the course enjoys spectacular views of mountains and sea. Designed by Dave Thomas, the course has contoured fairways and immaculate greens and the water features and demanding bunkers encourage golfers to search for the best approach shot. The final hole, a par 5, has one of the most dramatic tees in Europe.

The Villa Padierna Resort has three very different 18-hole course which offer something for all golfers as well as the Villa Padierna Michael Campbell Golf Academy—the only school in Europe specialising in the short game and private classes.

Flamingos - This 18-hole, 71-par course measuring 5,714 metres course has generous greens and great Mediterranean sea views. Fairways are narrower on the front nine, requiring more precision. It has a great variety of trees and stunning views of the Mediterranean.

Flamingos Golf has hosted prestigious golf tournaments such as the 2002, 2003 and 2004 European Seniors and the Women’s Spanish Open in 2010.

The Villa Padierna Resort has three very different 18-hole course which offer something for all golfers as well as the Villa Padierna Michael Campbell Golf Academy—the only school in Europe specialising in the short game and private classes.

Alferini -The second course at Villa Padierna is a testing par 73, so not one for the higher handicapper. However, it's beautiful setting, integrated into the natural landscape, makes it a must for any golfer looking for a relaxing, yet testing round.

Tramores Golf Club is ensconced in a lovely landscape between two valleys with impressive views of the Mediterranean Sea. It is Villa Padierna Golf Resort’s third course and its facilities include the Villa Padierna “Michael Campbell” Golf Academy, since this is the course the school recommends for its students. Tramores is a fast, accurate course, yet still entertaining and requiring skill. It is perfect to start enjoying the game immediately.

At a par 65, the course is short, but fast and technical providing an entertaining chance to improve your short game. 

El Paraiso Golf, designed in 1973 by Gary Player, is one of the most established courses on the Costa del Sol. Enjoying views of ´La Concha´ mountain and sea, it offers a fantastic championship layout. The club is truly International and offers everyone a warm and friendly welcome.

El Higueral is a picturesque 9-hole course in the gentle hills in Benahavis.  El Higueral is truly lovely with it's unique features and vistas. The greens are manicured and the elegant designed lakes offer beauty as well as a challenge in avoidance! Rates are very competitive, so why not play all day.

Zagaleta is an exclusive residential country estate covering almost 900 hectares of beautiful natural hills and valleys, in a magnificent location overlooking the sea, just ten minutes from Marbella.  Zagaleta New Course was inaugurated in 2005 and truly merges golf with nature thanks to designer Gaunt & Marnoch, who took great care to ensure the course blends in with in beautiful surroundings.

This Par 70 is a playful 18 holes of wonderful obstacles and doglegs. Zagaleta New Course adds a new dimension to the course’s character and provides unforgettable sights along the way. The elegant and cosy Clubhouse offers magnificent views from the terrace to the Course and the spectacular lake. Additionally, it is possible to see the different avian species and the variety of fauna in the area.

Atalaya New Course offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and is seen as one of the most natural courses on the coast.  Created in 1990 by Paul Krings, the New Course is set further inland, but has a parkland feel about it - with gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens. It would be fair to say that, in general, hazards are obvious but still manage to trap the unwary. Care is needed off the tees and the wild hitter will soon encounter difficulties.  The New Course is rapidly catching up with the Old in terms of quality and in the summer months there are great bargains to be had for the holiday golfer. 

The Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Championships winner who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With its wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers at all levels. Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain.  Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer - but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for single-figure players as well.

Los Arqueros was the first golf course to be designed by Severiano Ballesteros. As the designer himself says, Los Arqueros is a good course for players of all kinds - a reasonable challenge for the average golfer and a tough test for professionals. The design thinking behind Los Arqueros Golf was to lay out a course which closely followed the contours of the land and was in harmony with the natural setting. It is an idea, which Seve exploited to the maximum when designing the front and back nine holes, each with its own distinct personality. Therefore, this is a demanding course which requires a calculated game, and where you cannot afford to take many risks if you want to make your handicap.

La Quinta Golf Club has 27 holes divided into 3 courses of nine holes each:

COURSE A, SAN PEDRO: is an open course with wide fairways which invite the use of fairway woods and long irons. 

COURSE B, RONDA: is a fabulous course with narrow fairways and technical greens.

COURSE C, GUADAIZA: with the remodelling a few years ago, course C now feels much like Course A, where the player must use a complete range of shots making it a very enjoyable course.

Los Naranjos is a typical Robert Trent Jones Sr. design with generous fairways and strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. The greens, with Penn A4-grass, are spacious and slightly undulating. The tees are long and have four markers. 

Since the opening in 1977, Los Naranjos has been the host of several mayor competitions, including the Spanish Open, and is ranked one of the best golf courses in Spain. In 2005 and again in 2008 Los Naranjos was voted “Course of the year” on the Costa del Sol. 

Los Naranjos is the perfect choice both for the experienced player and the beginner. A truly GREAT golf course.

Rio Real golf course runs alongside the Rio Real River, from which it takes its name, and forms an integral part of the course, right up until it reaches the Mediterranean Sea. The course is relatively flat but still challenging with a wide variety of different species of trees: Pine, Palm, Casuarinas, Olive and Cypress. Rivers, bunkers and lakes all add to the scenic charm of the course and make it the ideal place to play golf, both on foot and in golf carts.

The course is suitable for every player, thanks to its more elevated holes, which make them even more appealing as they require careful and varied club selection. Many of the farways, however, are tight so straightness and accuracy are key.

Santa Clara Golf Club presents a technically challenging but straightforward and pleasant round, wide fairways with few roughs and open greens without pronounced slope. The course blends dramatically into the rugged local terrain.

The golf course has been created with respect for the natural environment of indigenous wild life and vegetation The golf course is highlighted by the "Santa Clara Corner" formed by the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, a perfect combination of pars 4,3 and 5, which requires the golfer to make long and accurate shots

Marbella Golf Country Club provides one of the best and most challenging golfing experiences on the Costa Del Sol.

The front nine has the tougher holes, with hilly terrain. Greens are consistent and fairly flat, but a buggy is recommended for this course.The new course layout has improved the play of the course, so well worth a re-visit if you have not tried it in recent years.

Santa Maria Golf Course, close to Marbella, offers a unique beauty, with views to the Mediterranean from all the holes, without intrusive urban promotions. Santa María Golf is considered to be one of the best looked after golf courses on the Costa del Sol. It prides itself in being situated between small valleys of pine trees and cork oaks, and less than 200 metres from one of the best beaches in Marbella. The 19th Century club house epitomises the golf clubs charm and character.

Cabopino Golf is located on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa, opposite the charming little Cabopino Port. Amongst the many spectacular holes, the par 4, 3rd hole would be the one to mention. The tee box perched on the side of the cliff presents you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 80 metres to the fairway, then you face an elevated green protected by a large bunker. Holes 13 and 15 are also attractive, with streams and lakes. Cabopino Golf allows all categories of handicap golfers to enjoy a day out.

La Cala has three superb championship courses, each presenting its own unique challenges, which slot seamlessly into a natural undulating backdrop of stunning beauty.

America - Spectacular views to the Sierra de Ojén and Mediterranean Sea  It’s wide, linked fairways and relatively few bunkers make this a slightly easier driving course, though the hilly topography requires a lot of carry across steep brush-covered side slopes, while the small raised greens demand more precise club selection to hit the mark.

Asia - Plenty of challenging holes, guaranteeing a testing round of golf which puts a premium on the approach shot. The oldest of the three courses and the one most respected by the professionals, it is narrow and short, with four par 5 holes demanding skill and strategy.

Europa - A dramatic course but easier for the average golfer with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens. Notable for one main bridge and four smaller bridges across the River Ojén, which features in eight holes, cutting across three fairways. 

Situated in the beautiful golf valley behind La Cala de Mijas, Calanova Golf Club has good facilities, with an unspoilt, exclusive feel. Challenging to medium handicaps, and a pleasure to the more experienced. Strategically placed bunkers and lakes populate the course which is green and tranquil, A fairly unstressful course to play.

The main campus is located on uneven terrain, which gives it great personality, and added to the original design of the great Seve, make it challenging for the good player and great entertainment for the middle and high handicaps. Challenging, demanding, original and fun. Throughout these 18 holes you can enjoy the magnificent contrast between the manicured fairways and wilderness of the Sierra de Mijas.

Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, Miraflores Golf Club has undergone a transformation and offers a real challenge to all levels of golfing ability. Every hole offers a different challenge. The course follows the natural contours of the valley and is much flatter than first appearance suggests.

Santana Golf is situated at the heart of the "Mijas Golf Valley", surrounded by the rivers Ojén and Las Pasadas, and very close to the Mediterranean Sea, set in the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park with breathtaking views of the mountains; perhaps this is the reason why it's also known as "The Seven Hills Course".  

The combination of magnificent design, excellent state of preservation and client attention, together with a competitive pricing strategy, have made Santana Golf a landmark in Andalucía

It is set in a former avocado plantation with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design.

Santana Golf is technically speaking a demanding course as the unique design of each hole is intended to give a continuous challenge, even for the more experienced player. The layout of the greens, well protected by greenside bunkers, as well as the many water hazards spread throughout the course, will challenge every golfer and require good course management as well as the use of every golf shot in the bag. 

La Noria Golf opened in December 2003 as a golf course of 9 holes and par 33 with a combination of technical and quite long holes.  It is situated in a unique location on the Costa del Sol, between the cities of Fuengirola and Marbella, in the county of Mijas and only a few yards from the magnificent beaches of La Cala de Mijas.  It is located on the flats of La Cala. 

The course is totally flat and contains four bridges that unite tees, greens and fairways, but also present its biggest difficulty in approach shots to the greens. Other features of three magnificent lakes and the river that crosses the course from northeast to southeast and forms the spine of the golf course, are other elements of risk. La Noria Golf course is challenging for beginners and experienced players alike.

Mijas Golf has 2 courses.  Los Lagos with its 6,536 metres, is the larger of the two courses.

Keeping the original design of Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course has been totally refurbished in 2012. Los Lagos is a course with soft slopes, wide fairways and few forest trees obstacles, but defended by many bunkers and no less than nine lakes, from which the course gets its name, eager to trap each and anyone's ball. The greens are large and flat with sensitive undulations and the wide tees can be used to reduce or enlarge the difficulty to choice.  Los Lagos is a course suitable for all levels of handicap players, being one of the most famous commercial courses of the Costa del Sol. 

Mijas Golf has two courses.  Los Olivos has a abundance of trees - hence the name - which distinguishes this course from Los Lagos. It is also smaller in size and has fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended.

Although both are the work of the same designer, there is no doubt there are interesting contrasts between the two courses: if Los Lagos is based on hazards of water and sand, Los Olivos is strategic, with narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens.

With an original design by Pepe Gancedo, El Chaparral is the only course in Costa del Sol with 6 par 3, 6 par 4 and 6 par 5. With a length of 6,000 meters, it has a great variety of holes and is quite demanding, requiring great precision and skill.

El Chaparral Golf Club is set just 700 meters from the beach and surrounded by pine forest and has wonderful mountain and sea views. Trees, undulating fairways and greens, and enough water hazards to be interesting. Watch out for the 8th and 13th holes, and especially the par 5 17th with it's two water hazards and a banked green. The course requires skill and accuracy but offers an unforgettable experience.

Lauro Golf can be found in the middle of beautiful and pure nature in spectacular surroundings. The course consists of 27 holes that can be played in three different combinations, all par 72.

In Lauro Golf, nature is everywhere. Within the whole complex the direct contact with nature is constant, due to the the micro-climate of the course created by the thousands of trees and the fourteen lakes of the golf course.

The idea was to create a course that was technically challenging yet not too difficult. 

The extension of the course with holes 19-27 designed by Mariano Benitez, follows the same lines and equally requires concentration and skill. The course is moderately flat and can be played on foot though there are two holes located on the side of the mountain and from which you can enjoy some spectacular views over the valley of Guadalhorce and the Mediterranean.

The club house is located in an old Andalusian building, Cortijo el Paredón

Antequera Golf is much more than a beautiful 18 hole golf course located in the centre of Andalucia, at the base of the Natural Park of El Torcal of Antequera (Malaga). It is a demanding golf course, as well as being ecological and surrounded by protected species. It is perfect for experiencing the best golf in privileged surroundings with spectacular views and all the facilities you may need.

The course is prepared for the development of all the exercises and challenges necessary to enjoy golf to the fullest.  Each of the holes has a design and features that surprise both the most competitive golfer and the player who simply wants to spend a pleasant day of sport and nature. Holes like the 3, can enthrall the amateur player. The beauty of its lakes can easily make the most conservative sportsman forget that its waters will become a great obstacle to reach the green. Also the 6th hole can leave you breathless, besides passing over a ravine, from your tee great views of the Peña de los Enamorados and the Vega de Antequera.

For seasoned golfers, the tenth hole can arouse great interest. It is the most difficult par 4 of Antequera Golf, trees, slopes and a lake can make this hole the worst of the enemies. For the hitters there is also hole 14, one of the longest 5 pairs in Andalucia. And for the most risky is 18, an ideal hole to finish a great round if the risk is rewarded.  If you really love golf and are a golfer, this is the course for you.

Torrequebrada golf course, in Benalmádena opened in 1976.  It is a beautiful, picturesque golf course between the sea and the mountains.  A unique feature is the variety of fairway design and the greens are notable for their size and speed.  Strategically placed lakes and bunkers add to the challenge.  The most intrepid golfer can test their skill on every hole!

Torrequebrada hosted the 53rd Spanish Open Championship in 1979.

It is conveniently situated approximately 20 mintues from Malaga airport, Torremolinos and Fuengirola, and just 10 minutes from Benalmádena and its beautiful harbour.

The course was first designed by the Finnish architect, D. Kosti Kuronen, and was redesigned in 2009 by Club member, D. Miguel Ángel Jiménez

The course lies in the centre of the fertile plains of Guadalhorce valley where there is no hustle and bustle to spoil your peaceful game.

The family atmosphere is one of the main features and despite being a private club, you can enjoy its facilities on weekdays with a prior reservation. It has two distinct parts: the front nine is of typical English “parkland” design that extends through gentle hills and level fairways that is easy to walk on a hot summer’s day.  The fairways blend with the surroundings with only two uphill slopes, the 1st hole and 5th hole.  The challenge of the front nine is the various out-of-bounds hazards and the fast, large greens.

On the back nine the land has been sculptured to create raised greens and diversity to the fairways.  Water comes into play on the 10th, 11th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes and the large greens with some borrow are difficult to read and add to the difficulty of the second nine holes.  The whole course has a great variety of trees, both native and some newly introduced, and several lakes.

Years of history have made this course—the oldest in Andalusia—both challenging for experienced players and achievable for any golf enthusiast.

Sand dunes, palms, mimosas, eucalyptus and pines skirt the course. Two of the holes run along the edge of the sea.

The course's origins date back to the 1920s and are linked to the British royal family, especially Princess Beatrice of Battenberg, who spent part of the year in the area and was a driving force behind its creation. In 1925, construction began on the original 9-hole course under the technical supervision of Harry Shapland Colt (builder of Wentworth).

Under the direction and design of renowned British architect Tom Simpson (creator of such famous courses as Turnberry, Muirfield and Ballybunion), it was expanded to 18 holes (6173 m, par 72). 

The course has been used for several PGA European Tour professional tournaments—Turespaña Masters Open de Andalucia (1992 and 1999) and Open de Andalucía (2010 and 2011).

Añoreta is an 18 holes Golf Course, Par 72 . It has been designed for any players; either beginners or experienced golfers will be challenged to use all the clubs of their bag. Surrounded by trees and water, it has a diverse design, with spectacular holes as number 7 with incredible sea views or par 3 number 17 all surrounded by water. It was the first Golf Course constructed in Axarquía (Rincón de la Victoria). 

Baviera Golf, located on the spurs of the Sierra de la Almijara (east of Málaga), lies in a valley boasting an ideal microclimate for the practice of golf. The Golf Club is just 500 meters away from Caleta de Vélez, with its Marina and magnificient beaches, which together with Nerja and Torre del Mar, are among the best on the Costa del Sol.
